  Rescheduled Road Race Walking Championships

The Board of Athletics New Zealand has approved the holding of the Road Race Walking Championships at the same time as the Long Distance Championships in Hastings on 24th October.  Please read the information below and also the attached for all the necessary details; schedule of events and the entry form. To make it clear who can enter. A walker who did not enter for Christchurch may now enter in the 5 or 10 km championship races and send in a paper entry form and fee.  They may enter on line for the Long Distance Champs and pay another fee.  This is dealt with in the attached entry form.
Entries close on 10th October and NO late entries for the 5 and 10 km races will be accepted.

Anybody who was entered in the original Championship is automatically entered in the rescheduled race. However it would help the Local Organising Committee if you can advise if you do intend to travel to take part so that they can prepare numbers and a race pack. (See email addresses below.) If you have not attended one of the Long Distance Championships in recent years you will not be aware of the programme of events and arrangements.  Click here for details of the event and then select Non-Championship events and there you will find a lot of useful information including information about accommodation. The Clansman Motel is where many of us will stay but any motel on Heretaunga Street East would be suitable.

It is appreciated that the South Island walkers are the most disadvantaged by the re-scheduling and I can assure them that the walkers travelling from Wellington will do their best to provide help with transport to and from Hastings .  Please email David Lonsdale as soon as you have made your decision to travel.

You will see from the schedule of races that everyone except Senior Men and Masters Men can enter two championship races, with just one start.  Yes you can on this occasion start at 8.00 am to do your 5 or 10 km race and then carry on to do a longer distance championship.  If you wish to do this you need to enter ON LINE in the Long Distance Championships via the Athletics New Zealand web site for the longer distance.  You will also have to pay an extra entry fee for that race.

For further information you may contact either Brett Addison Sport Manager at Athletics New Zealand or David LonsdaleGeoff Hulbert the Chairman of the Local organising Committee is currently in Rarotonga to compete in the Round the Island race but will return by mid-October.

We look forward to seeing as many walkers as possible at Labour Weekend in Hastings.
